Bringing new furniture into your home is so much fun. IKEA furniture requires assembly, which can add to the fun (with the right mindset), but the enjoyment can be dimmed on the discovery that there are missing pieces or if you accidentally lose or break one. Luckily, IKEA furniture has plenty of back-ups for your furniture parts that need to be replaced.
Now, if this does happen, you can refer to this easy step-by-step guide and get the part you need.
Find the part number (in instructions). The website has a page for ordering spares. Search the part number, add it to the order, fill in buyer details, agree to Ts & Cs, and place order. Small parts are free and delivered in 3-5 days. Large parts involve fees and longer delivery. Or go to the store to order.
Ordering Small Spare Parts:
Unlike larger items, when it comes to ordering small stuff like screws, knobs, or plugs, IKEA will not charge you for this service. They even include free delivery.
1. Find the Part Number
Part numbers are usually very easy to find. All new furniture comes with an instructions manual. IKEA instructions are quite visual, with not much text to them. You can find your product number and spare part number here. Product numbers will be found on the bottom right corner of each page.
The spare parts number is located adjacent to each spare part.
How to Lookup IKEA Parts Number
To find your desired spare part, you would first need to find the part number in your instructions. As stated above, this is very simple, you just look at the instruction booklet.
However, if you are like me, you think you know what you are doing and don’t pay attention to the instructions that come with new furniture and the booklet can get lost.
Well, luckily, technology is here to save us all. IKEA offers their instructions online too; all you would need to do is:
- Go onto the IKEA website and search for the product in the search bar.
- Scroll down and click the “Product details” section.
- Click on the assembly instructions, which contain the spare part number.
- Download the PDF of these instructions for future reference.
2. Search Part Number on IKEA Site
Once you have obtained your spare part number you would need to search for your part by typing or copying and pasting the number in the search bar below the “Spare Parts” heading on the page.
An image of the spare part that you are looking for will appear below the search bar. All you need to do is click the part number next to it and you can select the quantity.
3. Add to Orders List
Once you have selected the quantity of your desired spare part then you can simply click the add button next to the quantity box. This will automatically add your spare part and its quantity to the order list on the right side of the screen.
If you have made a mistake with the quantity or the actual spare part, not to worry you can still adjust the quantity on the order list. If it is the wrong part then you can just click Remove and it will no longer be on the list.
4. Add Additional Parts Then Click “Order Parts”
I would suggest checking for all your spare parts beforehand so that you can spend less time going back and forth to order more parts.
If you would like to order more spare parts, you would just need to clear the search bar and type or copy the next number into this bar and repeat the process of adding orders to the list.
Once you are done adding additional parts, click “Order spare parts”, which will take you to your online order form.
5. Fill out the Online Order Form
Get your birth certificate ready for this one! IKEA will ask you to provide your name, address, phone number, and email address to complete the order. Okay, so your birth certificate is not required, but it is quite a lot of personal information that they need.
You will also need to agree to their privacy policy, which gives IKEA consent to use your personal information to process the order and to save your details under a profile they will create for you.
However, if you are a die-hard IKEA fan and have already had an IKEA account, then your personal information will be automatically filled in. You will need to log in to the account to do this.
6. Place Your Order
Once you have filled in the order form, click “Order”. The website will take you to a page displaying all your details about your delivery including your delivery address, your contact details, the spare parts that you ordered, total cost (free in this case) as well as the status of your delivery.
You will also receive a confirmation email with the above information. It will also have your order number making it easier to track your order with customer service.
7. Await Delivery
Delivery, as mentioned, is free for smaller parts and can take up to 3-5 working days for delivery.
Alternative: Go to Customer Service in-Store
If you and technology are not friends, however, you can always go old-school and speak to an actual human being in-store. Sometimes it may be easier to describe what you want to an experienced employee instead of searching endlessly for something specific online.
Don’t forget that you will still need to know your product number for the employee to assist, but they will probably be able to help you find your product. You will need to describe it to them or maybe take a photo of the box it was delivered in as a reference, as the image of the product will be printed on the box.
However, the one disadvantage of this method is that if there is no stock available, you would need to come back. This can be a tedious method, but you can request an employee to contact you once there is stock available and your next visit will be more worthwhile.
On the other hand, if it is in stock, you won’t have to wait for delivery. Furthermore, IKEA does not have the best reputation when it comes to deliveries and online services.
Replacing Larger Items
When it is not smaller parts you are after, like pegs, screws, knobs, or bolts, and larger parts need to be replaced, you can still do an online order, but there will be a fee and delivery could take longer—up to 10 days. The longer wait is because larger replacement items are less likely to be kept in stock; some may even need to be sourced from other countries.

Replacement Part for Last Chance to Buy Items
If you purchased your item from the Last Chance to Buy section, then you might struggle to get replacement parts as the production of these items has been discontinued. But there is a way to do it. Some parts are standard, like normal screws and dowels. But anything customized will be difficult to get a hold of.
