7 Best Dehumidifiers for a Bathroom Without Fan

We all know just how terrible the consequences of high humidity levels in a bathroom can be. The best thing to do to reduce the moisture in your bathroom and achieve code-compliant ventilation is to install a bathroom exhaust fan.

However, this is not always possible, and in these cases, you will have to piece together an effective ventilation system. While a dehumidifier cannot ventilate the room, it can remove a good amount of moisture from the air, easing the burden for your alternative ventilation strategies. I have compiled a list of the best dehumidifiers there are to choose from if you do not have a fan in your bathroom.

Pros

This is a great choice as the nearly 7 ft long drain hose will allow for continuous drainage, meaning you won’t have to constantly empty out buckets of water several times a week. You can position this hose through a drain hole in your bathroom floor, or the long length will allow you to pop it out of a window as well.

This dehumidifier can remove a whopping 4 gallons of moisture from your bathroom per day. That makes it super efficient at drying out smaller and larger bathrooms.

Modern technology allows you to have peace of mind as the automatic humidity level detector will either switch the machine on or off when humidity levels have risen or dropped, much like a humidity-sensing bathroom fan.

Cons

If you choose not to or are unable to use the hose, then the collection bucket is only 0.5 gallons. As a result, it will probably have to be emptied out quite often, more so if your bathroom is used by a number of people or you live in a naturally humid area.

Pros

It has a super modern appearance, which means you won’t mind seeing it standing in your bathroom every day. The sleek handle also makes it convenient and easy to transport and store when not in use.

It is capable of reducing the humidity level in spaces up to 1,200 square feet, making it an ideal fit for most bathrooms. This dehumidifier can hold up to 7.5 gallons of water at a time, which means that you will need to make fewer trips with the splash-proof bucket to drain it.

Cons

It is not the cheapest dehumidifier, but in my opinion it is worth the investment.

Having a large bathroom is a great asset to any home as you are able to fit in all your necessary utilities and more without feeling cramped and aching for more space. However, a larger space means a larger area for your dehumidifier to work through.

That is why I recommend the 50-pint Midea 4,500 Sq. Ft. Energy Star Certified Dehumidifier with Reusable Air Filter for larger bathrooms. This dehumidifier is capable of removing the moisture from a 4,500 sq. ft. room—an incredible amount of space covered!

Pros

A truly wonderful characteristic of this machine is that it provides the user with the ability to set a target percentage of humidity for the room, so the bathroom is never too dry or has too much moisture.

This dehumidifier has a 7.5 gallon capacity which means you will have to empty the tank less often than a smaller one. You can do this by just removing the bucket, however 7.5 gallons can be heavy. Happily, it is designed so that you can drain it using a hose.

Cons

At 51 decibels, this is a relatively noisy machine—similar to a refrigerator. While this may not bother some folks, those who are noise-sensitive might find it difficult to sleep with the dehumidifier running in the next room. This would be particularly problematic if you had no door to close between the bedroom and en-suite bathroom.

4. Best for a Small Bathroom: EVA-DRY EDV-1100 Electric Peltier

Small bathrooms are sometimes unavoidable when there is no room to expand or renovate. Whatever the size, the bathroom is the room in the house that receives the most moisture, so you still need a good dehumidifier to do the job right, but it also can’t take up too much space.

The EVA-DRY EDV-1100 Electric Peltier is an incredible choice for those bathrooms that are on the smaller size. This dehumidifier is nice and compact, coming in at less than 6″ tall, which makes it really easy to slot into your bathroom without taking up valuable space.

Pros

It is super easy to transport as it is incredibly light, and even more simple to set up: plug it in and you are good to go.

Once the tank is full, it is really easy to pull it out and empty it down the drain as it has a smaller holding capacity.

Cons

Since a smaller bathroom does not necessarily have less humidity to remove than a larger one, the 16 oz. tank may need to be emptied frequently, depending on how often the shower is used and how humid the air is in general.

If you live in an area that has very high humidity, then your small bathroom will need a more powerful dehumidifier.

5. Best for a Humid Climate: Letsport Upgraded 68oz Dehumidifier for Home

We have already established that bathrooms are the room in the home with the highest level of humidity. Combine that with a humid climate and you have quite the battle on your hands.

Keeping your bathroom dry and moisture free does not have to come at a huge cost. There are a variety of affordable options to choose from that can match your budget. It is important to make sure that you are getting bang for your buck though, as cheaper does not always mean as effective.

One dehumidifier that won’t be blowing your budget is the SEAVON 1500ml Dehumidifier. But you don’t give up effectiveness for affordability; this unit can remove a respectable 0.4 gallons (1.5 liters) of water in your bathroom.

Pros

Smaller budget usually means smaller size, and this dehumidifier is no exception. It is really compact at less than 12″ high, which means it can fit just about anywhere and is really light to carry. It will work well in smaller bathrooms as you won’t need to empty the tank as often.

This dehumidifier is definitely one of the best as it has an automatic shut-off function; when the tank is full, the machine turns off. This means less overflow and spillage in your bathroom.

Cons

For what it is, the collection tank is a decent size. However, it is cannot be considered large, so it may become a hassle to empty out all the time.

But again, this is not a substitute for proper ventilation.
